Research & Development show

This week's show is a review of what I call the "research and development" listening I do - new stuff from old favorites, side-tracks never followed up on, things I've read about in forums or elsewhere online and things I've heard on our other cool local stations. Not everything's great but I can usually find at least something that stands out on each album.

You can listen to this podcast by clicking here.

  1. The 801 live album was followed by a studio album ("Listen Now"), but it really grew out of touring to promote Phil Manzanera's under-appreciated "Diamond Head" album. That was overshadowed by Roxy Music's "Siren", but when Roxy took a 3-4 year sabbatical for solo projects the live album was able to glean more attention than it otherwise would have. good thing, too.

I've probably mentioned this before (off screen), but if you can find a copy of the book "More Dark Than Shark" by Brian Eno and Russell Mills, it uses many of Eno's song lyrics from that period, including "Miss Shapiro", which isn't on his individual albums but might be on the "Vocal" box.

  2. That's interesting, I didn't know that. To be honest I wasn't thrilled with the Manzanara tracks on the 801 album, a bit too noodly for me. "Miss Shapiro" isn't on Eno's _Vocal Box_ but appears on the _801 Live_ album.
