New Bands show

This week I focused on active bands that have released 3 or fewer albums. It was more a challenge for myself as I've been finding it hard to find new bands that I love (and not merely like). I cheated a bit and included side-projects and solo albums from previously established artists but, hey, it's my show!

New Zealand show

This week's show was all about the New Zealand indie scene! I've been in love with the country and it's music since I heard The Chills "Pink Frost", it was a total epiphany. NZ's amazing mix of melody and raucousness still amazes me - young bands like The Mint Chicks, Die! Die! Die!, Punches, and Surf City are still making great music from the tiny little islands.

40 Years of Underground Rock

Today's show went much smoother, though I almost didn't get into the station! I'm still waiting for my access card. Ah, academia... The idea today was to present a broad overview of my tastes and highlight favorite tracks from the past 40 years of underground rock. It's almost arbitrary picking 7 songs to represent an entire decade! Of course, 'rock' leaves out swing, funk, country and experimental stuff I like.

You can hear the show by request - leave me a comment.

Warm-up show!

Well, I had a playlist all planned out on my iPod and wouldn't you know it, I couldn't get the line-in working on the desk. No idea what happened but I had to scramble and pull random CDs from the stacks - I won't make that mistake again! I own lots of the stuff I played but I also pulled out plenty of good-but-not-great new indie bands just to mix them in.

It was good practice, though, and by the end I was getting the hang of it, setting the right levels and feeling more comfortable in front of the mike. Next week will be my proper debut!

Oh, and I'm followed by another local resident whose show is called "Home Cooking Jazz with Judith".

This weeks show/podcast is available by request, just leave a comment.
